Why blog now?  It’s a question I’ve been asked more than once recently by friends I’ve told about this here blog.  I guess it’s because I’ve always been a writer at heart.  It probably started all the way back in 2nd grade when I was writing Kim (last name withheld to protect the innocent) love letters.  I remembered on Valentine’s Day she got a bunch of little sweetheart candies from our fellow 2nd graders that said “Be Mine”, “Kiss Me”, or “Miss You” and I figured I could outdo those little 2 word sayings.  I decided I was going to win her with the writings of my #2 pencil.  Turned out I could write better than the makers of sweetheart candies, but it didn’t seem to impress Kim, and I never did get to hold her hand during recess.  She vanished quicker than my need for the #2 pencil.  But at least she did help launch my writing career, so I thank you for that Kim….

In the years since, starting in college (and yeah that picture is of me checking into the dorms my freshman year) I’ve matured to writing more substantial things, including screenplays and novels.  Although, if a well thought out and written love letter helps get you the girl of your dreams, I guess there’s nothing more substantial than that.  The problem of course with screenplays and novels is that they don’t all get sold (I need a new agent), whereas the internet is, for better or for worse, pretty much permanent and the whole world can see your writing.  Which for my purposes here is ideal.  I can now write about whatever I want, and I don’t have to worry about whether the assholes at Miramax Pictures likes the way I transition from my 2nd to 3rd act in “West of the 405”.  For those of you who have known me for awhile, you get the reference, for those who met me recently it’s a love story based on the bars West of the….ahhh, screw it, you get the idea.

Until recently, I probably would have been content continuing my partying ways, while selectively working, but things have changed for me over the last several months.  In my 20’s, I was basically all about having fun.   I graduated from college in 7 years (a lot of people go to college for 7 years.  Yeah, they’re called doctors) and then worked at a bar for another 4 years or so, but unfortunately not much studying got done at The Study Hall.  When I turned 30, I turned down an opportunity to go to Law School and instead moved to LA to become a professional poker player. It was a great life, I traveled a lot, I was featured on TV (I’ll be signing autographs later), but I wanted more.  The partying ways of my 20’s had continued on into my 30’s, which would be fine if I was furthering my career, but I really wasn’t.  Which brings us to a few months ago.  I was getting paid nicely working on big cases in the legal field in San Francisco, and would subsequently spend/waste it on my frequent trips to party with my friends in LA at bars like BruHaus and Cabo.  While I was in LA, I started talking quite a bit with a friend of mine about buying some domain names, starting a few websites, etc.  We brainstormed ideas and thought of funny domain names and I realized that this is what I wanted to do.  I came back up north and less than 2 weeks later I had learned how to use WordPress and had designed a website for my Dad.  I have 4 or 5 websites that will be up in the next several months, and one of the things I will chronicle with this blog will be the ups and downs of starting these new websites.

A blog about starting up websites?  SOUNDS FUCKING BORING TO ME!!  I agree, and that’s why it will only be a small part of this blog.  The core of this blog will be my rants about women, partying, traveling, gambling, expensive food, or any other thing that I enjoy wasting my money on!  Now that I know my writing will be on display for the whole world to see, I can tell the people who passed on my screenplay to fuck off, and maybe I’ll impress that little girl from 2nd grade to hold my hand at recess….I mean with the “2nd grade me”.  Get your minds out of the gutter people.

Until next time!
